How can you obtain Turkish citizenship?
The 2018 amendments introduced several legal routes to Turkish citizenship. Real estate investment is the most popular and straightforward: it combines owning a home in Türkiye and living in a developed country with the potential to earn rental income or resell after 3 years.
Real estate ownership
One of the best routes to Turkish citizenship is purchasing property worth at least USD 400,000 and retaining it for 3 years.
Bank deposit
Turkish citizenship is also available by depositing at least USD 500,000 with an approved Turkish bank and maintaining the deposit for 3 years.
Investment in Türkiye
Turkish law allows foreign investors to qualify for citizenship by making an investment of at least USD 500,000.

Stages of the Turkish citizenship process
Submit the citizenship file to the competent directorate for official registration and acceptance
Complete the initial review to confirm that all documents and information are accurate
Conduct a comprehensive review, archive the file and refer it to the relevant authorities for assessment
Add the application to the files submitted for official approval
Issue the final decision on granting citizenship
Notify the applicant of the outcome through the authority where the application was filed
Documents required for a Turkish citizenship application
- Title deed (Tapu) for the purchased property.
- A valid real estate valuation report (valid for 3 months).
- The original Foreign Currency Purchase Certificate (Döviz Alım Belgesi), issued and stamped by the approved bank.
- Original payment receipts from the buyer’s account, stamped by the remitting bank.
- Original receipt confirmations from the seller’s account, stamped by the receiving bank.
- Two copies of the special power of attorney for the citizenship application.
- Turkish translations of the passports of all family members (father, mother and children under 18), certified by a notary public in Türkiye.
